The new Pretty Lights album is out! I am jamming to it as I am writing this and it’s the diddleydank! I must say, he hasn’t strayed too far from the style we grew to love him for; however, the new tracks are anything but monotonous. The same great mix of jazz, electro, and hip-hop come together seamlessly to be paired with an all out rager or chill session. That’s the best part about Derek’s style is that it can be interpreted in whichever way you want it.

This weekend was pure insanity. Every moment of Austin City Limits was entertaining and the aftershows were equally spectacular. Lotus jammed out at Aces both Friday and Saturday night and Bassnectar destroyed a sold out crowd at La Zona Rosa on Saturday. I didn’t get to catch the STS9, Thievery Corporation, or Ghostland shows but from what I saw at ACL I’m sure they were great.

Bassnectar’s shows at ACL and at the La Zona Rosa were probably my favorite of the madness that was this past weekend. No worries, I have the entire weekend documented so keep checking this week for updates. I have tons of photos and videos to post but I need to get them all uploaded and organized first. Alex Ebert, the once front man for Ima Robot, has come to terms with his inner hippie and has recreated himself as Edward Sharpe. Also they are coming to Austin in November so make sure to hit that up.

Colin Munroe is a producer with a lot of promise. He has a bunch of stuff on the way; everything from remixes to new songs with Drake and other notable hip-hop acts. This song he’s on with Young Buck has a great beat and a very catchy hook. Enjoy.

So to make up for my sparse updates you’re going to get a nice compilation of songs today. John Mayer is one of my favorite artists of all time. He can slay the guitar like nobody’s business. The problem is most of his commercial pop, though catchy and great in its own way, does not showcase in anyway his jazz-blues-rock fusion abilities that make him awesome. I put together a little zip of 6 songs from Mayer that you’ve probably never heard, unless of course you’ve been in my car. After a run through of these songs you’ll almost certainly have a new respect for John Mayer’s knack for creating great music.

Joe Maz, Gigamesh, and Danny Daze are the trio that make up Discotech. I’ve seen Daze DJ a good amount this summer when I was home in Miami and he can rip the tables. Despite slow(er) Miami summers he kept LIV packed and bumping each time I saw him. Anyways Discotech produces some sweet remixes so I figured I’d let y’all get a sample.
